Falcon and the Winter Soldier
Episode 5: Truth
Episode 5 starts with a massive heap of action having the titular heroes fighting the now “Roid-raged” Walker. The rest of episodemoves at a very slow pace, filling in space before the penultimate clash of episode 6 with character development and time to give space for consequences of past actions, and past sins. Sam spends time with Isiah Bradley, the first Black Captain america. With that the question is posed to him, what does it really mean to be a Black Man that defends a country with its history towards Black people? The story of John Walker doesn’t end, either. A new character appears, a woman named Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who wants Walker for her organization. We see Bucky gain something as well: after spending some good quality time amongst Sam’s family and friends, Sam tells him what he really needs to do to heal from his demons: seek the good of others.
The episode ends with Sam opening a crate from Wakanda, which we don't get to see inside, that is hinted to hold the new outfit and wings after Walker destroyed his last pair. While the episode moves things
to a head, a large portion of it is just talking between characters, revealing and reveling in past mistakes, beliefs, old wounds, and new beliefs. A nice change of pace overall.
